Numbers matching, is that a thing? How to find?

Got a 67 800, we think it has the original engine. Is there a place to decipher vin #’s for that vintage? Would it make a difference in value if it is numbers matching? All info is appreciated! Thanks
 
Please provide more info on your Scout 800 and photos of vehicle and data plate, etc.

You can get a build ticket or what we call a line set ticket that will list all the equipment that was original to the vehicle as it left the assembly plant. On mine it does have the engine's serial number, which miraculously matches.

Normally matching numbers dont' matter. But, if it was a special edition Scout, or in extremely well cared for mint conditions I can see where it would increase a value but how much I don't know.
