Newbie With Questions

Hello. About a year ago I got a hand me down '66 800 from my uncle. I plan to use the Scout as a fun vehicle to drive around town or down to the beach on weekends. That doesn't mean I will never take it offroad, that's just not it's main purpose. I want to keep it as close to stock as possible.

I am not very mechanically inclined, but I have had a blast getting it up and running. I drove it for the first time this week! I am almost ready to start body work and I have a couple of questions I hope some of you experts can answer for me. If I have to make modifications, I would like to do it before I paint it.

First, I would like to add a roll bar for safety. The ones I have seen look like they just bolt to the body above where the gas tank is. Is this functional, or just for looks. If it doesn't make the vehicle safer, is there another way to do it without having a full roll cage?

Next, seats. I have not been able to find seats made specifically for a Scout. Does anybody know if bestop Jeep seats can be used in my Scout? If so, which year model matches up best, with the least modification. I'm also open to other suggestions.

Doors... The passenger door is the only place that needs major body work. If I could find one, I think I would rather just replace it. If anyone has one they would like to sell, or knows someone who does, please let me know. I checked the classifieds, and didn't see any recent posts for doors.

Thanks in advance.
Gary

Hmmm.... For your seats I'd say try corbeau, they make an aftermarket adapter that allows any of their (and other) seats to be put in. For the doors, try craiglook.com it searches all of the craigslists around the country, and many people are willing to ship stuff if you pay for it.

You could give Jeff a call, I don't remember if he has any good 800/80 doors or not. If not try binderplanet.com

Thanks guys for the info. I never knew about craiglook.com. I did find a door on there for a fair price. However, the guy selling it didn't know exactly what year model it came off of. He said it belonged to his grandfather and he is sure it's from the 60's. The truck is long gone.

Are doors one of the things that stayed the same for several years?

All Scout 800 doors should intermix with eachother from all years, ('66 to 70-ish) don't hold my words as gospel, but they should work
