New to the scout scene, looking for some direction

If you're reading this post I appreciate you taking the time, this is my first post and I'm looking for a little insight on my restoration process. Always been a Jeep guy, but when I saw my first restored Scout I knew I wanted one. Just put a deposit down on a 79 Scout II with a motor that has a thrown tie rod. The guy I'm buying it from had a few extra scouts floating around so he's taking the motor out of a 76' I believe Travelall for a temporary solution. This Scout has barely any rust from what I can tell so far, just a little on the rocker panel which makes this much easier and besides a dented passenger corner cap the body is in excellent shape. Inside the cab is fairly decent, missing a few knobs here and there but nothing out of the ordinary I wouldn't imagine. So this brings me to my next question, where do I start? Fingers crossed and under the assumption that the motor he installs is decent, should I focus on the road worthiness aspects (headlights, weather stripping, wind shield wipers) or do I just invest the money right away and start on the motor?

If it were me, I would do a complete systems check, engine, trans, tcase, fuel system, brakes, and electrical. Write down all that you find good and bad that will give you an idea of its condition and what needs attention and what can wait. On IH's rust is always worse than it looks, so be prepared.
