The new 1973 Scout II arrived (bought it on ebay). It's my first Scout and I dont know alot about cars. It's been totally restored, minus a few bells and whistles. It has a Chevy 350. It's a 3 speed automatic. I have never driven a 3-speed automatic;I have only driven it once and would liek some advice on how to operate. Th4 4-wheel drive is operational. When it's all the way forward, I believe it is not in 4-wheel drive? And there are 2 positions down..1st for 4-wheel high and 2nd for 4-wheel lo? Also, the gear shift ..all the way up is park, 1 down is reverse, then neutral, then drive..then all the way down(back) is low? Also the lights on the dash downt work (tho the clock is lit up) and the directions dont work(emergency flashers do tho)..do you think it could be jsut a fuse? The seller is away and I wont be able to reach him for awhile, but would like to get the Scout inspected (ma) and havent found a "Scout" mechanic nearby yet.

I moved this thread into a forum that May help a little more.

It would help to have a little more info on your specific engine tranny t-case combo. However if it is a th300 transmission I would assume that it’s a NP208 t-case. Which would mean that you are correct with the 4-wheel drive locations.

As far as the dash lights go it could be a fuse at least that’s where I would start. Always start with the easiest first. As far as the blinkers go it sounds like a flasher to me, there should be 2 flashers 1 for the hazards 1 for the blinkers. Switch them and see if the blinkers start working, if so go get a new flasher and you should be good to go.

Welcome to our world wofat!

You have another resource located fairly close to ya (well...out on the cape!) who plays with both Scout II and chebby-powered street rods. He hangs here as "caperodder". His day job keeps him up in nh, but he's "around" the cape on weekends.

In his commutes, he May actually pass by beverly???? Hook up with him and tell him I sent ya!

By the way, my wife is a native of hyannis by way of chatham out on the cape (she speaks that "labsta" tongue), we're kinda plannin' another trip up there for early summer/'09 ta hit the stripers and blues with caperodder! He just don't know it yet! Momma works for an outfit hq'd in billerica.

Thanks for the info...I've spent alot of time down in the hyannis and orleans area. Lobstah is wicked cheap right now, you can call legal seafood and they ship the bugs same day!

We were discussing the decline in lobsta prices just last nite with friends while sukkin' down crab cakes!!

Hope they don't start turnin' 'em inta fertilizer!

And one of our favorite salt water fly tackle shops in the kuntry is goose hummock there in orleans! Along with fishing the cape in chatham. We normally fish the monomoy island area either wading or from a hole in the water.

Small world gittin' smaller!
