New PS pump installation ?

So I recently got a new (rebuilt) Saginaw PS pump from IHPA for my Scout II and it came with an O-ring that says it's supposed to go on the pressure line fitting. Where the heck is that thing supposed to go? There's no "land" for it to sit in anywhere on my hose end, the nut, inside the pressure-out housing, and I can't conceive of it going over the flare, but before the nut, as that would only serve to lessen the torque applied to the flare, but that seems like the most appropriate location given the size. My old pump had some issues leaking from this location (I didn't install a new o-ring then either) until I tightened it so much I feared I was going to strip it if I got it any tighter, but that DID get the leak to stop. Put a little teflon tape on the nut as well, although I'm not sure if that did anything, but that's neither here nor there.
So DOES my pressure flare fitting actually need this o-ring, and where ~exactly~ is it supposed to go?
TIA,

1980 boxes were metric and used an O ring on the hose fitting.

Did you order the right box for your scout?

If your scout is 71-79 it used a flared fitting no o ring.

You can buy conversion fittings.

Or get a conversion pressure hose made flared side for the pump end metric o ring for the Ps box.

The return line fitting is also O ring on the metric box so make sure you get a return line hose with fitting from a 1980.

Ps. Don't use ptfe tape on straight threads, it does nothing.
