Name here is seth. I live in roseville. I just bought a 73 Scout II. Have big plans for it. Will have some pretty good cash to put into it early next year. For now I will be nickel and diming some stuff. Plan to get the rear SOA set up and in feb have a front axle built. I dont plan to do hard core rock crawling, but want to be able to have some fun with it. I am also a licensed ham operator ag6i and can be found on the icw 147.195 machine most the time im in my dd truck. I'm an electronics engineer and an experiences ham operator. I can help with radio installs and such. I also have a pile of ht radios.

Congrats on your new Scout!! Does it run and drive? If so you could come to dobbins in oct. I'm not too far away if you need some help!

I just got my ham lic. I'm on it most evenings.

It does drive but has some issues. It only drives in 4wd. Apparently in 2wd is makes some noises and wont move. The rear turns in 4wd and doesn't make any noises so I don't think the rear end is bad. I'm thinking its the transfer case. I am supposed to go pick it up this weekend. I will get some more info. This is all from what the po told us. I did drive it and it drove pretty well in 4x4. The brakes are messed up. It stops but the pedal is on the floor. Will need to sort that out as well. The last thing is the transmission from what the po says when you put it in reverse it will take a while before it will go into reverse if at all. Any and all help and expertise will be appreciated. I plan to drop the t-case next weekend and swap in a used one.

well, I'll trade ya a transfercase for a dual band mobile:ihih:

Lol I only have one of those and it's my pride and joy a ic-2820 with the d-star module. It rides in my dd. I have a ft-1900r that will go into the Scout.

Update:

I have confirmed I will be picking up the Scout on Sunday. Im headed down to lodi after work to pick up my donor 72 blazer axle with confirmed flat top knuckles on both sides. Wont be till jan that I have the cash to have Jeff build it up, but it will sit in the garage til then. I plan to get the SOA done on the rear over the winter and hopefully get the sway bar kit installed on it. Next Saturday I will probably be dropping the t-case and seeing if I can sort out what exactly is wrong with the driveline. Would be great to meet some of you guys. I do provide beer and bbq for assistance. :)

so are you putting your outers on the blazer axle, because I think they are 6 lug

I will have Jeff build my front. Chopped, turned, ARB locker. It will be ready to install when I get it back. While he is building it, I plan to get the shackle reversal and brake booster/proportioning valve swap done so it will be completely ready for the new front axle to just bolt in.

Here are the pics. Got it home on Sunday. Last night I gutted the passenger door. Dropped is off at my friends house. He will fill the holes from the factory molding. Then I will prep it and paint. I just gotta figure out where to paint at. My garage is way too dusty to paint. I tried to do the primer on the door panel tonight and there is way too much particulate in it. I cleaned the panel real good.

Primer is meant to be sanded. Take some wet and dry 400 and some water and go over the door. It will be glass smooth when done. :ihih:

good talking with you the other night on the radio with kj6iym (andy)

not sure on your body work skills, but I would sand with some wet and dry 320 (wet) with a rubber block as it looks to have a lot of oxidized paint. Then if you want to fix the panel go for it and use primer as final filler and wet sand and your ready for paint. I would go one panel at a time so it not over whelming af6od.

Fwiw looks a lot like mine did:yikes:

Yeah.. Thats the plan. I really would like to get one complete piece done at a time. I will shoot another coat of primer on it tonight and wait till im ready to paint before I hit it with the fine stuff. I still need to find a clean place to do the final paint work. I have a compressor and access to a nice gun. But my garage is soooo dirty and the Scout has no reverse right now. So backing it out is a pain. Nice talking to you guys too. Im usually on during my commute time. Which isnt a lot since I only commute across town.
