New clutch slave mount?

Michael mayben, have you or the rest of the crew finalized plans for your revised s80 clutch slave cylinder mount? I like the idea of the integral two bolt mount, and improving the geometry. I've seen your posts 911-Scout-80-t18-four-speed-swaperoo.html And 2403-back-country-trail-project.html#post17712 And 4193-clutch-slave-hose.html#post31273, but no news in the last six months...

Since my slave had succumbed to the dot3 diet, I'd like to improve the whole system while I'm buying parts. Do you have any drawings, prototype pictures, etc. You could share, so I could fab my own? Thanks!

I haven't done much more with this project. But others are pushing me also!

I have the mule for working this up permanently living in the shop for the winter. So I'll get back on this deal asap as the entire powertrain is due to be jerked in prep for the replacement powertrain. The current engine is going to be mounted on a test stand for use in testing ihc carbs and other engine components.

As for dot 3 and the oem hydraulics...that has not been a real issue for many years actually. That is because the original girling guts succumbed to the rot years ago and if still functional, were rebuilt using "normal" synthetic rubber components that have been included in the various rebuild kits for both master and slave for many years.

This is one case where "nos" is something to run away from. Who the hell would use nos girling shitparts inside anything???

The problem with the oem Scout 80 clutch throwout system is the worn out fork and throwout collar (along with most likely a bent pushrod due to abuse or seizing). So all that stuff has to be first class to begin with. The master cylinder setup has no issues that I've identified. And coming up with a replacement mount for the slave is not going to be any big deal, that will allow use of the two ear bolt-on slave or the use of the oem-style clamp-on slave also.

I just found my box with all the sample stuff I was working with for this project yesterday. I'll put it in a prominent position on the bench so I can kickstart this deal again!

Awesome! I appreciate the info. Yes, I plan to get the rebuilt collar & fork.

If the ultimate IH fourbanger moves forward, I'm planning that, too. Gotta sii 196e on the stand, and two 152s (with one al intake manifold). Would like to know whether better to weld crank for the bbc rods, or get rods for the IH crank. Also, where would I source pushrods? Sorry, off topic, I'll repeat in an appropriate thread later. But we're paying attention... Lol

Alotta my "personal" projects have been put on hold due to on again/off again/on again interruptions in our income stream. The Scout 80 stroker project is just a toy and toys appear way down at the bottom of the list in times like these.

Robert and I have talked about the rod/piston sitch several times, there are options. I lean on Robert for his technical expertise regarding this kinda stuff since he's deeply involved in building high-end performance engines.

I think we ended up agreeing on a particular chev piston and a particular chev rod, and those are much less dinero when purchased in sets of eight. That way we can split the cost since he's playing with a similar motor also.

I hope to move forward with the engine build in the next few months. I now have a donor motor for the head (at least I hope it's the right set!). I May pull these heads and bust 'em down next week and deliver to the machine shop for cleaning and crackcheck before spending any additional time on the prep work.

If the head(s) check out, then we have an associate who is going to hog it out, that will be done before the final valve work in case any other problems bite us on the ass.

In your case (and mine), using the oem 152 pushrods is the answer. We still have a plentiful supply of reconditioned welded rocker pushrods on hand. It is the boat rocker pushrods that have been taken out of production, those were still available to us new until a few months ago.

We have two suppliers that can produce any pushrod for us that we spec. We're working on scrounging our entire inventory of pushrods together in one place now so we can make a projection regarding having this stuff made exclusively for ihon for the future.

I'll be using a ultra-nice nine stand welded rocker assembly in my build, I have all the internal parts prepped now and set aside except for the crank core and the cam. Robert will spec the cam once the shortblock is assembled and he sees the results of the head cut.

My intentions are a mild shortdeck 196. Gotta drag racing friend who can likely find me Chevy rods for cheap. The 196 was pulled from a rusted away beater, but ran ten years ago. One 152 is in my parts rig, but appears to have been recently rebuilt (zero sludge buildup, but carbon on the pistons & head), and the running 152 is in my s80 now. Can't really be sure what's useable until I get them all to the machine shop.

My plan b was to add material around the outside of the aluminum 152 intake using my water cooled tig, and port to match the 196 head. Cut & port the intake for the weber conversion, and get a mild cam. However, I prefer to keep the 152 fuel pump system. The other reason for the short deck preference is this thing needs a diet, not a weight gain! :( then there's the firewall clearance issue, etc.

Michael, I am finally getting around to replacing my clutch slave cylinder. Not wanting to spend money twice (if a different slave cylinder will be required), have you finished a mock-up of the new & improved clutch slave cylinder mount? We finally have some good weather here, so I'm motivated to crawl underneath my 80 and get it back on the road! I'm close to ordering a regular slave cylinder, unless you can tell me you are close to having a new system completed... Yes/no?

Thanks! :)

We now have new clutch slave cylinder brackets in stock. They are not online yet so you will have to call for now to place an order. They are 1/4" thick and have slotted holes so either one of the slave cylinders that we sell will fit.
