New Bottom End Clanking Noise

Hi Everyone,

Took her out for a drive tonight and when pulled back into the garage and idling for a minute heard this intermittent clanking noise that sounded like it was coming from inside the motor towards the bottom end. I have never heard it before and it makes me nervouse that something has come loose. Oil pressure was good and temperature was also good, only 38,000 original miles. Any ideas or input are very much appreciated!

Yikes, sure it's not the fan hitting something? Do you have a cheapo stethoscope from harbor freight that you can use to pin point the noise?

I will check around the fan tonight to see if I can find anything and I will also grab a steathascope from harbor freight thats a few minutes up the road and see where that leads me. Thanks for the ideas!! I will report back :)

Auto or manual transmission? Take the drive belts off and start it up and see if the noise goes away.

Automatic with AC, I will also give that a shot and see what happens. Was talking with a coworker and they thought it sounded like it might be a sticky lifter and to try some sea foam because it was only audible at idle and there was no lack of power when driving. Any thoughts on that?

So just an update here. Started it up tonight and let it idle for about 20 minutes and didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary. Also went around with the stethoscope all over the engine and didn’t hear anything abnormal. Didn’t take the belts off yet because the noise was not there and I figured that wouldn’t do anything to help me diagnose. While it was sitting idling in the garage I put 7 ounces of sea foam in the crank case and instantly heard a noticeable smooth out of things at idle, poured the rest in the gas tank for good measure but still no replication of the noise from last night. Went out for a 20 minute drive and when I got home still nothing. Also checked both oil and transmission dipstick to see if anything had broken off and both still intact. Anyway the video is of it idling tonight with no out of the ordinary noises so I guess I will just keep driving it and see if I hear anything again at some point.
