My first Scout!

First off an introduction, I am new to the board and the world of IH vehicles(I used to drive one of those j word rigs:icon_redface:) well, I have seen the light and am converted, better late than never.

I recently made a deal on a very solid 1977 Scout II. The original 304 went south and the po swapped in a 345 from a '76 model (I also go the rest of the '76 for parts). He told me the motor ran great before he swapped it but just didn't seem right after. I trailered it home and got right to work.

Turns out this thing hasn't seen the road in 10 years:yikes: I replaced the fuel pump and dropped the tank to clean it out, what a mess that was, replaced the sending unit while I was there (thanks Jeff) and buttoned it all back up. Fired right up and sounded pretty good. Still needs a little tuning but after a thorough safety inspection I drove it to town!

Now that it runs it's time to start building. My last rig had f/r 60's on 40" iroks. I want something much tamer this time. Mild trails, mostly take the kids to the dunes. I was thinking SOA and some 35s. After reading how much easier it is to start with a Chevy housing I started searching cl. Only took a day to find an axle and the guy threw in a 12 bolt rear all for $50. I also found a set of drilled and tapped knuckles with hi steer arms. Sooo, now I am thinking about using both these axles and going full width. Am I crazy? Will I hate having it that wide? Should I just narrow up the Chevy 44 and keep the stock rear?

And of course a couple pictures.
