mid range gear ratios

I know this has been done before, but most of these threads are 4-6 years old. While technology hasn't been too friendly with scouts, sentiments can change. So:

if you were wanting to run your s2 daily driver sort of thing (d44 front and rear, 727/d20 and a solid 345- what gears would you run that would allow you to dd and run something like calico or some of the tougher stuff at moab, metal masher maybe? Would arbs be required or would a lunchbox/ls combo be enough? Assume an adequate lift for the required rubber, and you drive to the trails - from florida:rolleyes5:

I have the above in a 79 with the good ol' 3.07s w/ 33's and it runs around just fine (slush box problems not withstanding). I have a list of the upgrades I want to do and am curious what the consensus of those that have more wheeling opportunities than I do would do.

That's a pretty long drive. I'd go with terra lows in the transfer case, then you can keep your freeway gears. Jeffs got a couple of Scout Dana 300s that they make 4:1 gears for, might want to look into one of those. The lunch boxes are ok until you start running giant tires.
