Michael you were highly recommended by a member of another forum as the go-to guy for Scout carbs.im not new to carbs but new to this one.background:just picked up a 62 Scout 80 last week, sat x number of years, nobody knows for sure,it ran but poorly, fuel leaking from bowl gasket.picked up carb kit #25577 from napa and proceeded to install it,reinstalled carb and it ran, better but gas was pouring out of the overflow hole above the bowl.after reading you posts here I adjusted the float and it ran but wont stay running,I can get it to start but I have to nurse the throttle and play with the choke,it wont go to high rps, dies when I try, backfires, coughs ect.I have tried several different float settings,as well as air/idle mixture screw settings, seems I have only manged to make it run worse or not at all.do you think this carb just sat too long and is toast?I took some pics hope they help, thought maybe the carb might be missing a part all together.id appreciate any ideas you have and if you think this is something that requires you magic let me know, plz and ty.btw the list # is 2494

I'd never use any carburetor kit obtained from napa...period. I do know that the kit they supply for a 1904 is a bastard that has parts for not one individual carb that are correct but is an amalgamation for many variations of the 1904 series.

I see no accelerator pump discharge fitting mounted in the intake plenum either! Where is that?

The float level I can see that is set in your picture is enormously too high. Fuel is no doubt pouring out of the vents.

Once those issues are handled, you will still have major performance issues. That can be corrected by doing a complete rebuild of the main well system which includes drilling out all the plugs, cleaning the internal porting, and then re-sealing with appropriate plugs.

If you do not rebuild the main well, you will never have a functional carburetor...period. And the remanning of the economizer poppet segment is a separate issue from doing the primary reman of the entire main well body.

A Holley list # 2494 is by far the most common variation used with the 152 Scout 80 engine along with a few variations of the six cylinder models.

That explains alot,is that part avaliable?do you have a pic of what it should look like?do you do reman only or do you sell carbs on an exchange basis?I had a feeling that kit was crap, who offers abetter one?

We have stickee threads in place on all our sub-forums to both explain the basics and address common issues for these components. Her's the one for the 19xx series carb located at the top of this sub-forum:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/carb-tech/510-Holley-19xx-series-carb-stuff.html

In that thread you will find all the single venturi carburetor variations used and how to address issues. A good shot of a properly adjusted fuel level float is shown.

We do supply reconditioned main wells ready to mount and run. However right now we're waiting on the next shipment to come in.

We also normally have completed 1904 carburetors available but until the main wells arrive, we have to put a hold on the unit! I'll be back in town and working on this stuff again around June 21st and we'll be in good shape after that.

Service kits for these carbs? I use primarily the wells unit and now have added walker systems to our supply. These kits are available through the store right now!

Thanx michael, ill see what I can round up in the local junk yard for a nozzle and ill get ahold of you here if I end up needing your services. Cole

Had napa cross reference the carb kit number you listed in your thread and it crossed to a different carb kit than the one they sold me.....
