Mechanical Clutch Linkage

When I purchased my latest Scout the clutch would push in and slowly return. It was too the point I had to use my foot to bring it up. I drove it lightly for a month then let it sit. Now it's darn near impossible to press in as well as super slow to come up. I had the tranny out to replace the rear main, side seals, and freeze plugs and the clutch and pressure plate look fine. Throw out and clutch fork looked good too.

It is a 67 with the 266, 3 spd, with twin stick. I was thinking the grease on the linkage? I noticed there are 3 grease points. 2 on the rod through the tranny and one inside the bell housing. Clean and regrease? It's all mechanical, no cables. Clutch does fully engage and disengage.

Any thoughts?

Work your way through the linkage, checking the bushings and removing all the old grease and regrease.
How do the clutch act! Is it engaging correctly then you have to pull up the pedal or is it coming in slow. If it is slow, chances are you are dragging on the main shaft. You can always remove the plate and throw the kano oil to it. That will melt out the old grease and free up the throwout slider.just dont drown your clutch plate!

Pulled both grease points on the rod through the tranny, cleaned and greased, added grease to the throwout, put some white grease on linkage, and cleaned the output shaft. After working it for 20 minutes, it started to free up. Now it works 100% better, just need a stiffer return spring for that last half inch. Seems that it was a combo of all the moving parts not moving for awhile.

Took it out for it's first spin since the seals and plug replacement. Runs like a champ and best of all no smoking clutch or leaks!
