I have a 72 Scout II that originally came with a d30 front axle and drum brakes. I swapped in a d44/disk brakes from a 75 Scout including the proportioning valve. I also replaced the mc with what I thought was the right one. I have been having unsatisfactory braking during long steep slow downhill's. I haven't noticed any problems around town just when off road and putting the brakes through their paces. The bakes get hot and the pedal gets hard pretty fast. Im starting to suspect poor rear brake performance. I started doing some research and I think I have the wrong mc. Looking at IH parts store I have what they refer to as a 4 wheel disk or universal master cylinder, it had equal size reservoirs front and rear. I notice the one it calls for has a smaller reservoir in the rear for a drum/disk application. Could the larger reservoir not be generating enough pressure to operate the rears correctly? I'm getting ready to dig in and was hoping for some expert advice.
