Master cylinder upgrade

I'm restoring a 1964 Scout 80. I'm replacing the single reservoir master with a duel that I bought from IH america.. I'm also putting in a warning valve block off a Scout 800.. The new duel cylinder has cast in the housing.. "rear" in the front and "front" in the rear..

My question is does it matter which cylinder I hook my brakes to? In other words, do I have to put rear to rear? The reason I ask is because it would be a straight down connection to the warning block if it didn't matter, but id have to run the lines over each other to hook it up based on the "rear" "front" casting marks. Hope this makes sense.

If you're running drum brakes front and rear, then it probably doesn't matter. If you're running disc/drum then the larger reservoir would be the front.

I'm running drums all around. The master cylinder I bought was replacement for stock front and rear drums... The two reservoirs look identical to each other in size and shape.. So I'd love to be absolutely sure before I plum this thing up..

May I ask why you doubt the port labels?
The port orientation can be either of the two possible configurations. That master is labeled for a reason for it's intended usage. Scout 800 drum/drum.
In this application, the piston design and internal configuration will determine the appropriate connection location.

I didn't say I doubted the casting marks.. Just wondered if it mattered because both bores look identical.. The reason is for straightforward plumbing.. Not having to criss cross the lines.. I called IH Parts America and they said it didn't matter. Thanks
