1967 1300B 1 Ton, 4x4, 266 CI V8 Rear brake lockup after running about 30 miles. Early on I replaced the master cylinder to address brake failure. Now I am thinking that might be the wrong master cylinder which might have a role in brake lockup. I am looking to replace the master cylinder and push rod. Not sure that what's in there now is the right one. And the original was unfortunately not saved. OEM part number for push rod is 356 200 C1. Not able to find that, but does anyone know what the length or any other specs on the push rod? Ordered new master cylinders from NAPA and Rock Auto, both of which corresponded to OEM number 356 039 C91 for the master cylinder, but neither comes with a push rod.
 
i dont know anything about the push rod length....
but with the rear end jacked up can you spin the rear wheels ? is there alot of brake drag ?

no lock up before the master cylinder was replaced? is there any adjustment on the push rod ? if not would any adjustable push rod be made to work ?
 
We adjusted the brakes and were able to spin them with the rear end jacked up. If the brakes were dragging we adjusted them. The brakes were fine until they failed the one time I was coming back from Macungie. After that I had the master cylinder changed. I don't remember why that was determined to be at fault. There was also a bad bearing on the front left, which we changed. I changed all brake lines, hoses, wheel cylinders. I installed new brake shoes in the rear but haven't driven on those yet. I don't remember if the push rod is adjustable; I'll disassemble the master cylinder to check. The thing that is consistent is that on a long trip the brakes will lock up; on a short trip they generally don't.
 
Is there any pedal movement before the rod contacts the master cylinder? If so the rod is not the problem. It would be difficult to bleed the brakes if the rod was to long.
 
for some reason the brakes are dragging, its the heat causing them to lock on long trips.
just throwing ideas out there
wonder if all the return springs are working... ?

There is what I would consider "normal" pedal movement. I was also able to bleed the brakes.

Yes, I replaced the return springs. I agree; looking at everything to find the problem.
