Manual Transmission ID help please

Here are two pictures I snapped of the casting numbers on my transmission out of my 74 Scout II donor truck.

The cast numbers are on the top of the transmission, and from the shift knob I can tell that it is a 4 speed of some origin.

The second picture is the id tag on the back of my transfer case. I have only one stick and it has a large Dana logo cast into the back of it.

I also have a question about the (unsure of correct name for it) shift linkage? That spans between the clutch cable and transmission and seats on the ball ends on the frame and on the transmission. The opening is far too large to seat cleanly on the ball shafts. It is missing a part of some kind? What about seals to hold the grease in? Maybe someone could post a parts schematic?

Thank you!

Regarding the trans...the cast-in number is just that...a number. It is the part number for the case itself. We need some long shots of the tranny itself (with the transfer case adapter in place, along with a description of the shift pattern to make positive I.d.

The transfer case is a spicer/Dana 20 no doubt. It's a good thang the tag is still there! The top number is the bom number that identifies the unique assembly down to the smallest component level. Bom means "bill of materials" and is unique list of all parts as spec'd for that case by ihc as an oem part. These cases date back to wwii, so ya can well imagine how many variations were produced over it's lifecycle!

The second number is the ihc oem part number for that assembly. You normally do not find those numbers in a replacement parts list produced by ihc...that transfer case was supplied as a "assembly line install" item, not a "service part" item.

There were literally several hundreds of variations of d20 cases produced over time that "look the same"...even for the Scout II!

Likewise...the d20 transfer case info in any ihc service manual must be taken with big chunks of salt! The illustrations many times do not match the description or the actual case that May be on the bench!

The only definitive reference for these items is the service manual produced by spicer back in the day for the variations of the bom. We have much in the way of literature to support these products, including aftermarket parts supplier references, but because those units have been out of production for many years, there is no telling "how" any one unit is assembled internally without inspection.

Just this past week, we assisted one of our customer/members here with assembling a d20 correctly...his unit had completely un-matched gears installed in every location! It had some Bronco stuff, Jeep stuff, and even one piece of IH stuff inside as it had been boneyarded together! But now it all matches with correct parts we sourced from two different vendors and I just got an email from him that after a three year "project" (including transfer case meltdown) is now essentially complete!!

And...that transfer case had the original bom tag on it...but inside it was a total disaster of wrong schnizz!
