Making Brake lines

Anyone making their own? Looking for info on bulk brake line, unions and tools. Working on a recently purchased '63 Scout 80 with a snow plow. Looks to be all stock and well taken care of but used. Been sitting for years and has no clutch or brake pedal. Fc27792a

I've done several brake restos on s80 platfiorms.

All brake tube is 3/16" with double flares throughout. No strange fittings or "adapters" whatsoever.

Actually each brake line segment is available in standard pre-flared (with flare nuts) lengths at any full service auto supply and is very inexpensive. If the long line to the rear can't be found pre-made, then simply join appropriate lengths with a union.

The inexpensive double flare tool set from harbor freight works just fine if you practice on scrap and become competent in making flares. Do a search in this forum regarding the keyword "double flare" and you will find some information.

The "standard" brake set on s80 is a 9" system all around. A '63 "should" have the plain old bendix pattern units at all four corners, the earlier s80 had a really strange brake set for which parts are more difficult to locate. I don't recall the supplier for the early bake system.

The "option" brake set was a 10"x2" lockheed system on the front and an 11"x1-3/4" bendix on the rear. If that rig had the snow plow as a "factory item, it should have been equipped with the upgrade brakes along with a spicer/Dana 44 rear axle with tapered hubs.

This pic shows a set of refurbished 10" lockheed fronts for a Scout 80. The small "pigtail" tubes are kinda unique on these vehicle apps. The same pigtail is used on both the 9" and the 10" brake sets.

I custom make those pigtails and we should have 'em on the shelf at ihon, you won't find those in the online store however. If the inventory at the shop is depleted, then once you order, I'll make a set and dropship from my location if needed.

The clutch and brake hydraulics are all easily rebuildable if the proper parts are selected. The clutch hydraulics however are girling (england)-sourced and can be problematic if they have been empty and corroded internally.
