Loan a tool program. IHSTO style...

I have a few 'specialty tools' that I never/rarely use that I would be more than willing to loan out to IHSTO club members in good standing. If you have a custom/specialty tool or two gathering dust in your garage that you'd be willing to loan out/let someone borrow, post up.

1) cam bearing install tool - I have no idea why I have this?

2) ball joint/u-joint press

3) cooling system pressure tester

if you really need one of these to finish your project let me know! I'll wipe the dust off it and you can borrow it for a while.

Good idea chris!

A few "loaners" from my end...

1) cam bearing tool

2) 3/4" drive shallow socket set

3) complete test kit for verifying proper I-4/sv valve train lubrication with instructions.

4) vacuum pump (for hvac work)

5) 5 ton porta-power

6) folding 4klb. Engine hoist with swivel head, engine leveler, multiple chain sets, and soft straps for lifting.

7) complete collapsible tow bar set for flat towing with lights, light cable extension, safety cables, and custom mounting apparatus for any sii or pickall by removing front bumper, 5klb. Capacity.

8) full boat laser level/tripod setup w/remote sensor.

I'm in.

1. Stud gun with slide hamer (harbor frieght but works great) I won't need it till after another trail run

2. I have a ball joint press also

I'l add some more after a while.

I'll throw in my axle hub puller, handy on those tapered axles. A few guys have used it already.

Sticky this thread for quick reference?

Well guys I like this club loan a tool program. Thinking out laud , what if club buys a service tool with club $ and loans it to members for a small donation like $5.00 at the next meeting. I am thinking of this for our club down south.

Think it will work???

Chris…when I first read your post, I thought it was an excellent idea coordinating available tools and equipment. I know the guys down here in my part of town pass around stuff.

Robert…I think you and the main chapter guys are on the right track. Since it will be a club buy – collectively more funds are available for a larger purchase – what are you guys thinking about buying?

I think it’s a good thing and has lot’s of potential.

First concern is if it breaks and requires outside servicing, who responsible for payment?

I've been shipping special tools to IH folks around the kuntry now for over 10 years with no issues at all...except one!

I loaned my slushbox transmission gauge set which was custom fabbed witha magnetic mount so it could be used going down the road. Sent it ta sum dude on the old binder bulletin who wuz a player down in nawlins.

I wuz on hiz azz for more than two years to return it. And I even kept jackin' him after katrina and it wuz one excuse after another. So now I've given up until I'm down there in tha swamp agin and I'll find hiz sorry azz. I had over $600 tied up in that gauge set fabbed by the model shop dudes where I used ta draw a paycheck.

That sumbitch wuz prolly a chevrolet fook masquerading as an IH dude, they got no honor.

Sorry to hear about the scoundrel down in new orleans Mike. I have benefited from borrowing stuff from you in the past and in going to your shop to use the knowledge and tools located there. I thank you kindly for that service.

With a club like IHSTO and the spread of it's membership there probably isn't a very inclusive loan management program that can be applied across a specific inventory. It's much easier to loan out tools on your own terms in agreement with whomever you loan them to.

This thread is a good idea to post up what tools you would consider loaning out so that others who are in need can search it and gauge the ability to borrow the tool themselves.

The better I know you the more inclined I am to loan you tools.
I don't mind loaning out any of my tools, but some of the more obscure ones would be:
  • a double flaring tool (good for stainless and mild steel)
  • a ball joint press with extensions
  • tap and die set, standard
  • oxy-acetylene setup
  • 240 v lincoln 180 continuous arc mig (shielded and flux core) welder
  • kubota 2400 front loading tractor (no trailer to haul it though)
  • engine hoist
  • various chain hoists and ratchet hoists

Oops I missed/forgot I posted this.

I liked the idea but thought taking it a touch further could be good for the club. I need to bring it up with the prez next time I talk to him.

The club already owns a nice hf lift so similar bigger buys could be handled. Yeah breakage is an interesting slimy slope. You abuse it till it breaks you buy it or since most quality tools have a lifer warranty the breaker gets to swap it out and put a buck in the chicken at the next meeting.
