Is IT A 304, OR A 345?

I picked up a Scout II xlc a few months ago and the po told me it had a 345. Today I was looking at the lifters, trying to determine if they are the source the problem I'm having trying to get it to idle without dying... Sure enough, found one that was cupped pretty severely, and another with the beginnings of cupping. But while I was having all this fun, I noticed the heads are stamped v-304. Does this mean I have a 304, or did they just continue using these heads with the larger bore?
How do determine which engine I really have?
Probably a dumb question, huh?

Engine id is stamped on the passanger side of the engine.

The 304 cast on the heads does tell you that the engine is a 304 and not a 345. The 304 heads are a very different animal and is paired with a 345 block there is no manifold tha will work.

Still check the pad ron posted about.
