introduction...

Being new to this forum, maybe an introduction is in place:

restoring a 1977 Scout II 345 in my scarce spare time, at the moment the car is stripped down to it's rusty essentials, but since it had some 'minor' restoration done before it isn't all too bad... (I think).

Living in norway I am dependent on you guys helping me to get the perfect ride! :winky: most parts and such have to come from the us of a, altough I have a donor car (1979 traveler) and lot's of other spare parts.

In between job & family I hope to finish with a nice Scout within a year or 2 (give or take 3 years...), but no rush, easy does it.

some other projects I am working on: 15" skibsplast '81 speedboat (made in norway) and also in dire need of some tlc. Akk, if I just had the time...

Check out my website if you're interested... And a merry xmas!

Welcome to the forum reitsma, looks like your making some good progress.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

reitsma, welcome to our growing family. All the info under one roof.

Glad to see a sii getting a well deserves redo in norway.

I love it a bmw 5 series wagon towing a sii. Why not the bmw is a prurdee heavy car.:icon_eek: cuuda ended up like this. But you don't have access to michael.

Actually Robert...laurens does have access to me! He and I have been jawwin' about his "project" for several months now!

He didn't tell the whole story though...the rig under discussion has been on propane for many (if not all?) years! So his fuel system needs a bunch of attention!

Jeff and I are fixxin' him up a carburetor care package right now and hopefully it will make it's way around the world in the next few weeks!

But just lookin' at the pic laurens posted here, it looks like he's my next door neighbor!

Here's another pic so yawl can see what he's dealing with, bet this will ring Craig's bell and he'll wanna do this next!

When we start whinin' about findin' the right parts and such for this old junkiron...just think what those folks over in euroville have to go through...and the taxes and duties on "import" parts must be a killer!

It's just super that laurens has thrown in with us here, that truly adds some "International" flavor to the motley ihon crew!

Ok I stand corrected kinda but if his beemer ever got tangled up onna dirt road like ms phelps he couldn't get of picture of you standin on the beemer's bumper surveyin the deal :dita:

that is a classic never to be equaled. I still laugh at that picture.

Anyhoo glad to have you here lauren!

Thanx for the kind words...

Towing that bohemoth with the beemer was not one the most cleverest thing I did in my life, no... Certainly not with sub-zero driving conditions, did have some regrets about that day but all is forgotten now

whilst on the subject, the other project arrived yesterday, this should be an 'easy fix' compared to the Scout. :icon_eek:

This is what you get if you weld straight over rust... :nono: the po made a real mess of it, have to start from scratch again.

Dag, laurens

Hoi alexander,

great to meet fellow dutchmen on this forum

ik woon zelf in noorwegen.

No plans for big lifts or such, I will make it 'easy' for myself and keep my Scout quite stock (got enough work as it is...). Some improvements will be implemented but nothing too drastic... It's still a hobby

ben je al op binderplanet Geweest?

Removing previous welding, sure, there was some rust...

rust2.jpg

...using the grinder to remove most of it, but still more to go :icon_neutral:

And it was even worse on the other site of the tub... Aargh.

The po must have played some game, called: 'let's see how much rust can I hide' :mad5:

at least I got rid most of the bitumen :icon_4laugh:

Time for an update I guess... The former Scout is now stripped to it's frame, not sure whether it will be a Scout ever again. :icon_cry:

But I have found a more-or-less original 1976 304 which I buyed from another IH enthousiast here in norway. I got it registered yesterday and found the ride today quite enjoyable :ihih:

it's overheating a bit so that has to be adressed first, otherwise it has now been changed to pertronix electronic ignition, and TBI with headers and aluminium manifold are planned this winter.

Will give interior a lift with new carpets/new seats and the mailman delivered an original IH sportsteering wheel from sss which will give a nice look. 3-point harness and roll bar are the logical choice.

Mounted 265/70 radial tyres which improved the ride and the po already changed to ranchos shocks, shims and polyurethan bushings.

So far so good...
