Insurance recommendations

Hi,

well I just got word that my first IH truck ever will finally be delivered on December 9th from alaska. This is the first time I've had any truck as a second vehicle for a number of years now, and I'm very excited.

But now my question is how to best insure it. This is a 1962 crew cab 3/4 ton 4x4 with 304 v8. Until it's roadworthy in my estimation, it's not really even a second daily driver.

Is it best to insure as an antique, second vehicle, work vehicle, a camper, or what? What insurance company do you use or who could you recommend? I'm in los angeles where rates are very high, and regardless it must be first insured to transfer the registration and ownership into my name. As I recall when I had my last truck years ago, insuring it as a commercial vehicle will be prohibitively high. What is the cheapest way to insure a vehicle such as this?

Thank you all for your recommendations.

Steve

Different ins co's use different procedures to determine your rate. Ours uses annual mileage to determine our rate. Perhaps the best place to ask this question is your insurance agent, a good one will tell how to get best rate. If they are not a good one, find another.

You can also register the truck as non commercial if it has a camper shell installed. My dodge p/u is registered that way, $94 per year for dmv and $46 a month for insurance thru state farm.
