I have a '61 Scout 80 and just installed Dana 44's front and rear from a Scout II. The axles are discs up front and drums in rear. I also just installed the CPT suspension system for the 80/800 *came with brake lines from a Scout II with 4 inch lift that was recommended by IHPA*. I am now ready to plumb the brakes, but wanted some guidance on what to order, so I don't order the wrong things. I have already have the master cylinder for the Scout 80 w/ disc front/drum rear (s80-brk-mc-dsc-drm) and a proportioning valve (mbm-apv-1).
In my mind, from the front port of the mc, I have a tee fitting going from the master cylinder, to the brake light switch, and to the brake line provided in the CPT kit. The end of the line from the CPT kit will connect to a junction block on the axle. The block will split to both calipers and the calipers will be connected by the sii lines (444241c2 and 444242c2)
the rear will go from the port in the mc into and out of the prop valve (which I assume are 1/8 npt 3/8 flare fittings?) down the length of the Scout and connect to the rear brake line provided with the CPT kit. From there, down to a junction block on the axle, and be connection to the wheel cylinders via steel tube.
Does that sound right? I don't have the mc in front of me so I don't know if the reservoirs on the mc are equal or not. If not equal, the larger reservoir port would go to the front and smaller to the rear.
I have researched this a bit and I know there is debate on what size line to use. Some say use standard 3/16 line all the way, some say use 3/16 to front and 1/4 to rear like IH did. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. The Scout is at my uncle's shop, so I dont have it handy to check the sizes of the fittings on lines of the CPT kit, calipers, or wheel cylinders.
Fwiw, the calipers and wheel cylinders have been gone through. Again, any help you guys can shed on this would be great so I can get the parts ordered and get the Scout back on the road.
