I recently purchased a 1975 IH 150 with a 345 the guy who had before drove then parked it sat for a year and then I got it .. So ive been working the ignition system . Cleaned the spark plugs, I got a new coil for it a and tried to connecting the battery to the coil but still no spark... What would the next step be the condenser ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks rudi

We are going to need more information regarding "which" ignition system you have! In theory, it would be a Holley gold box electronic system. But after all these years, who knows.

If you need help with system identification, see this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/642-ihc-vehicle-distributor-identification.html

If the system is indeed a gold box product, those cannot be "hot-wired" from the battery as you would do with a breaker point distributor/system. Doing so May in fact wipe pout the hall effect trigger inside the distributor.

If the distributor is a points unit, then someone has swapped it in and the wiring for the gold box system is no where near suitable for a breaker point system unless it's also been fudged.

I have to take of the distributor cap to see if its a Holley ...for the Holley gold box electronic system there would be a resistor... Where would it be located ... The firewall in what color box ... Sorry if theres questions are dum but its part of the learning curve

Its a gold box. The coil is hot ... The problem is in the distributor.. What is the next steps ... New cap and rotor?

If the entire oem ignition system wiring is complete and not butchered, and...the wiring is truly for a gold box system, then start there at the firewall! There is no test for the gold box module itself as no one has the dedicated tester for that item. Some auto parts locations claim they can test 'em but I seriously doubt that is a correct deal. New replacement gold boxes are available in our store right now, substitution is how we test 'em.

If the actual trigger unit inside the distributor is faulty, then the best solution is to install a pertronix ignitor conversion, part number ho-181. Doing so eliminates the use of the gold box module also, it is not needed at that point.

We have many threads right here in this sub-forum regarding this same issue, do a search and you will become knowledgeable about this topic. Here's a sample of just one:

Hey I got the truck running ... It took a new rotor, distributor cap, coil, and spark plugs....
