Identification of Part on V266

I have had several Scouts, but this is the first time I have had one with a V266 engine. I have what is probably a very stupid question. Can anyone help me identify what this part is used for? There is one on each side of the engine. THANKS

Those ports are where the smog pump would be hooked up to inject air into the exhaust manifolds to promote combustion of un-burnt fuel leaving the the cylinder heads - smog parts. Looks like you need to cap them back off to keep exhaust gases out of the engine bay. They are supposed to be one way valves, but they're probably not anymore.

Thank You, that is great information. I just pulled this engine out of my daughter's 1968 Scout to rebuild.
