Decent motor, those were produced by American motors (amc) at the time and are not/never were manufactured by ihc.

You can research on the 'net by searching for "amc 232".

what is the firing order for a 1971 232 i6?

The firing order for both the amc 232 and the amc 258 is:

1...5...3...6...2...4

base timing is 0*btdc (or...tdc if you prefer).

Dwell is 31*>34* (0.016" breaker point gap).

Those are seven main bearing engines and there fore have an extremely well supported bottom end.
