how much lift on a scout 80?

I might be getting a Scout 80 soon and I want to know how much lift I need to clear 33's. Is 400 dollars for 2 non running scouts 80's reasonable. 1 of them is in great shape an it needs a battery and a new clutch master and slave and its good to go. The other Scout is just a parts truck. They come with a full top and a pickup truck top. Thanks for your input.

Lift really depends on application/usage. To run 33x10.50's I would say a 4"-5 lift or SOA conversion and you won't rub. The rim width and offset make a difference.

$400.00 sounds like a good price for what you described.

I suggest the alcan 4inch springs. They work very well. You have to buy your own shocks and they will make you some ubolts. I also suggest a new front driveshaft with Tom woods offset u-joints top and bottom. I never did measure the pinion angle before and after but it looks right and works good. Mine knocks the grease nipples off the u-joint because of the angle of the front driveshaft.

I would also suggest buying bilstien shocks right away, I have cheaped out on two lift kits now and am kicking myself for not buying the bilstiens... I have 31 inch swamper sst's on 8inch aluminum rims with the typical 3.5 inch offset... I would also do a cheapo highsteer so the angle of the draglink isn't too much and there is a little more clearance for the leafs to the tierod.

In the last picture if you look close you can see how I managed to fold the alcan spring up behind the front spring perch on the drivers side. Make sure you build a stopper for the shackle so it doesn't go over center and flip up behind the hanger...

I think it was around $700 for the springs and bushings, and u-bolts were extra, it didn't come with shocks either. You will need longer brake lines too if you want to do it properly. I would also buy a pair of offset ujoints(Tom woods) right away for the front drive shaft. The angle is quite a bit. I think they sell it buy the leaf pack actually. $175 per for the fronts and the rears are a little cheaper.

I too have the alcan 4 inch lift springs. I went with longer shackles in the front to deal with the "fold back" problem. The only issue with this was the change in caster that caused my steering to wander. I somewhat cured this with 4 degree shims. It still wanders a little bit at higher speeds, but I mostly use my Scout off road so it really isn't an issue.

Future plans call for replacing my front Dana 27 with a 44 properly cut and turned for good steering geometry.

I used longer shackles also, mine doesn't seem to wander, mabye a little at 30mph and I mean very little but at 60mph its straight as an arrow down to highway. I have since broke the Dana 27 and intalled a d30 from a '69.
