Hi, I have a Scout ss 2 1978 and I want to lift it. I just ordered a 2 inches body lift but I want to put shackles too. How many inches can the shackles have without changing the lenght of my driveshaft?

Thank you

luc

6" shackles would be the longest I would recommend, any longer and you will get some pretty bad road manners. For every inch longer your new shackles are will only get you about 1/2" of lift.

Thank you this is helping me. If I put a 2'' body lift and 4'' shackles would it be a nice setup for 35'' tires?

Thank you

A 4" shackle does not give you 4" of lift. A stock one is about 3ish" if I remember correctly.so for the shackle lift you are looking for it will only net you about 1/2" of lift.

In my research you need 4" leafs and a 2-3 inch body lift to run 35's. Shackles can be used for fine adjustments or to increase axle drop

I have 33x12.5 m/t a 2/12 lspring lift, 2" body lift and stock shackles and can barely stuff the tires without rubbing.

Running 35's on a Scout generally requires a SOA, a sawzall or a tolerance for rubbing fenders

4" springs, 3" body, bumps stops, steering stop adjustment and maybe a minor fender trim at the edges will fit *most* 35's.

All easy bolt-ons that can be done incrementally.

I would only recommend longer shackles to make lift springs work better, and even then maybe 1-2" over stock.

In this case its not only a mater of the amount of lift (7" in this scenario), but also the limiting articulation of the stiffer lift springs that will allow you to fit 35's. A SOA will typically net you 6-7" of lift with stock springs, but you can make 33's or even smaller rub.

Find a deal on a set of used 4" lift springs (~$250). Buy new, quality shocks, new body bushing with your body lift, borgson or similar steering joint and enjoy your Scout.

thank you for all your informations now I know where I am going to lift my truck. I will try to send pictures of my project, it is my first Scout (Scout II ss 1978) it was for sale near my place. The body is remove from the frame but it's very rusty. The frame and everthing else is good.
