this car has been fully restored about 5 years ago and only problem I seem to have is with the horn. Even though all wiring has been replaced along with a new horn the problem persists.
I have had my mechanic check everything out horn, ground etc.
The horn just stops working from one week to the next and the next day it works, first I thought the rough ride might be grounding out the horn but Friday I put the truck up after the horn stopped working and 3 days later it started working even though the truck sat not moving.

Any help would be great

Did he check / replace the horn relay?

Did he take the steering wheel off and check the horn "switch" / "contact ring" inside the steering column?

Have you tried pushing the horn button on the edge all around the circumference and see if the horn works in some "spots" and not others?

Hi,

yes the relay was replaced and the ring on the steering wheel was checked of dirt, grim or paint covering contact if thats what your referring to,I did not check the horn by pressing around the circumference yet but I will do so soon.

Thanks

You are loosing a ground, most likely at the horn mount itself. Run a fresh separate ground for the horn and see what happens. Same for verifying the ground on the relay mounting point.

Also...all horns (oem and aftermarket replacements) can get trash down inside the "trumpet",... For instance they don't work when "dry" but do work when it's raining (like one of mine)!!!! Relocating the horn itself can solve the problem of trash collection...spiders love to crawl inside the trumpet and build a mass!

Replace the horn if this persists after checking for proper voltage/current at the horn connector when pushing the button, but the horn doesn't sound.

Hi,

thanks for the fast response,I will check into this later. Funny
you mentioned the horn location because it was mounted inside the grill next to the headlight not where it was from the factory
on the wheel well.

Thanks
