Holley 1904 Universal with vertical throttle bar

Hey everyone, I have a 1953 IH R-132, straight 6 engine that I"ve been working on. I swapped out the original Carb with a Universal 1904 Holley bought from IHA. Worked great for a bit but then started leaking gas from the throttle linkage and then I stripped the bolt on the end trying to tighten. So I ordered another Universal 1904 Carb and hoping to get this one right.

My primary question is around the fact that I have a vertical throttle bar, not a cable. So where most videos are showing a throttle cable being 'pulled' and being snapped back into place with a spring, my vertical throttle bar goes down upon pushing the gas and then returns back up when releasing.

Is there anything I need to do when installing the carb, specific to the throttle linkage and throttle stop screw to ensure proper overall operation utilizing a manual choke?

From what I can tell the vertical throttle bar seems to have caused some unexpected ware (even though the carb was brand new) as I found some metal shavings from the washer on the throttle linkage when I began to investigate. I also noticed that during initial install the assembly that controls the flap didn't really 'snap' back in place like the videos I've seen, which again were primarily using a throttle cable, so I'm wondering if that is where things went wrong.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated!!

Some pictures would help to see your setup and damage you are mentioning.
The carburetor can't be the ultimate pedal travel limiter. The pedal needs to come to it's maximum end of travel when the carburetor is fully open.
A rod is fine, Scout 80's have a rod connecting the pedal to the carburetor.

Thanks Robert, I actually ended up swapping out the carb, which solved some problems but identified others that I need to work through including the Distributor and the overall timing. Appreciate the response!
