Hello guys, well I have been a Scout owner since 1987 same Scout. I have a 1979 Scout II 345 with prestolite electronic distribuitor. My problem is I was not getting fire to my plugs. Replaced coil and resister. It would turn over but not crank. Bought new cap and rotor still would not crank. So I replaced my distribuitor with the origional distrubuitor it cranked drove it a couple of days and went out to go to work it started ran about 2 minutes then died like I turned the key off. Try to start it again but it would only turn over but not crank. Bought a new distribuitor prestolite electronic ign, stabbed it and cranked it, runs and idols great but drive down the road and misses bad, now the problem is no fire on 1,4,8, so replaced wires again, still no fire on 1,4,8 so I replaced cap and rotor again. Still no fire on 1,4,8..... Could I have gotten a bad distributor? Or what ? Please give me some ideas.

Thanks, andy

How did you determine that you have no fire (no spark ?) on 1,4,and 8? I ask because there is just about no way to have a distributor only not deliver spark to certain plugs.

I checked two ways to see if the 1,4,8, were getting fire. Took test light grounded it to neg side battery pushed end of light on top of boots on distributor and the only ones did not chang the running of motor was 1,4,8,.
Then I took the boot off the plug end of wires put screwdriver in it held it about quarter to half inch away from merely on motor did not get any spark from it..
If there is some other way to check this please let me know.
Thanks,
andy

Wrong dist. Cap??

I only mention this because this recently happened on my '72 1210, I was doing a tune up & had a new cap/rotor/wires set lying around so I put it on, 3 cylinders no fire (I had also installed new plugs) messed with it for a while got frustrated swapped back to the old cap/rotor but left the new wires started it up & it purred like a kitten!!

The new aftermarket cap was 3/16" taller than the stock replacement?? Go figure??

Just a thought...
