Hello from East- central Alberta

Allow me to introduce myself, my '53 r130,and my 1710a cargostar. I'm a mechanic by trade and these 2 trucks I picked up as projects. The '53 is a numbers matching unit I found in a farmer's field between 2 '52s ( an l110 & a l150) I purchased it for $500.00 canadian and now it resides in my garage. The 1710a was at a co-worker's place and he offered it to me for $50.00 and a set of tires that I had kicking around.

While rehabilitating these gems I'm very doubtful on getting them very shiny :aureola: after all they're work trucks and will remain diamonds in the rough:gringrin::gringrin::gringrin:

Maybe repolish the chrome. Add some fast stickers. Everyone knows shiny stuff has like 100 more hp to it lol

Ok the '72 is gone to the wreckers ( needed too much to fix) but I just picked up another '53 ... A '53 r160 cab& chassis:yikes: so ihc now stands for: I'm hopelessly committed!!! Or at least my wife thinks I should be !!!

1953, drop in a 304, lower it 4inches. 245 wides on the rear. Bucket seats. Bolt it up to the 727tf. And make it a classy cruise machine that sounds like a dumptruck. Roll it up next to my slammed 70 c10 custom and we'll roll low and slow annoying the masses :icon_cool:

Hey there. And welcome.

That 53 looks like a fun build. I have a 51 non-IH truck that I'm looking forward to building up soon. I'm not much fond of the bling bling chromeness details :ciappa: maybe just a few very suttle touches here and there. But not like some of the hot rodders get where you need dark sunglasses just to look into the engine bay.

I'd have to try that on the r160 as I don't think the numbers match on it however the r130 is going to be as close to original as I can get it (aside from brake updates):idea:

I do agree with this as my feelings are; "chrome don't get you home !!!!":icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool:

I think I'll do just that to the r160 although a 392 might be a better idea along with an automatic and 2 speed rear end from my old coe.

I picked up another 'binder for parts an l110 that is in fair condition and tore the pistons & connecting rods out of it for my old r130. Maybe by Christmas I'll have a running engine in it. I was going to fix the '52 up as a rat rod but just don't have the time or patience for 2 on the go right now.

Im more of a 304 guy myself. They get up to speed a bit faster. But if u've got a truck with that long I say go for the dt360 and rock it out lol. Looks like u've got a fun project on your hand

Yeah the dt360 would move that thing. Wouldnt take up much more room than a silver diamond. And would get acceptable fuel economy. And roll coal

Just curious about what one in half decent shape would cost. And what trans to put behind it. I'd also need to consider brakes (or the lack thereof)

You can pick one up for 1500. You can back it up with a borg warner t19. I like the allison automatics. The bw out of the loadstars or the allisons. I'd go with the f250 disc brakes. Thats alot of engine to stop.
