My neighbor is helping me, more like me assisting him, with the re wire and we ran into a couple of questions. Here are the questions as he wrote them:
a friend of mine and I are re-wiring his 71 Scout II with a universal wiring kit (e-z wire). Right now we are at the front of the vehicle working on the headlights and signals. I have a 70 Bronco that I re-wired and am pretty good with basic electronics but we have an issue.
1. The stock harness has 3 wires going into the side marker lights and 3 wires going into the front signal housing. However, even though there are 3 wires going into each connection, there are only 2 wires on the other side of each connection going to the marker lights and turn signals. Two of the incoming wires are spliced at the connection and share the same terminal. Fyi, this is the stock set-up and has not been previously modified or hacked up.
2. I assume that the 2 wires going into the side markers are a power (that is active when the headlights/ park light switch is pulled) and a ground. Is this correct? If so I am confused as to why there are three wires going into the connection.
3. For the front signal wires, there are also 3 wires going in and 2 going out. Two of the wires going in are also spliced and share the same terminal.
A. I assume that the two wires attached to the housing are 1) a park light and 2) a signal/ hazard. Is this correct?
B. I also assume that the ground is the metal housing itself. Is this correct?
As I type this, I think I May have figured it out. Does the stock chassis harness have a separate turn signal wire and a hazard wire that meet at the actual light housing rather than meeting somewhere in the passenger cab. Perhaps this is the reason for the third wire that shares a terminal with another wire. Thoughts?
