Having issues with new brake line fittings sizes

Hey All,

I'm in the middle of a frame off resto and having some issues with the brakes. I bought the whole stainless brake line kit from IHPA and a new master cylinder. The only thing I reused was the combo/proportioning valve(not original), which worked fine before for my setup with front discs and rear drums. The fittings thread correctly into the right holes on the combo valve, but I question the sizing of the double flares, it doesn't look like they'd seat correctly. The two short lines that go to the master cylinder look way too big for the nipple on the combo vale, like they'd bottom out before actually sealing. The side that connects to the master cylinder looks fine though. Also for the long line that runs to the rear, that flare looks too small for the nipple on the combo valve. Again, all the fittings screw in, but it doesn't look like the flares seat. I'm wondering if I need to order a different cambo valve, maybe the one I have just doesn't work with this setup. I wish I'd saved my old lines so I could compare. Anyway, looking for some advice, was thinking I could use an adapter for the rear line and I could get 2 custom made lines for the master cylinder to combo valve. It would be nice to know all the different fitting and tube sizes for the combo valve and what comes with the brake line kit to be sure that everything fits together.

Another option might be to take a large drill bit and counter bore the pockets in the proportioning valve.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary. And no I would not take a drill and counter bore the pockets as that is a good way to quickly ruin your proportioning valve.

Hey Jeff, so you don't think the flare or tube diameter is too big for those seats on the prop valve? I can place the tube on the seat without screwing it down and there's some play, like it's not seating. Just want to make sure this is correct since it's a major part of the braking system.

Here's the best pic I could get of the long line that goes to the rear. Again, the fitting threads fine, but the diameter and flare of this tube looks too small for the seat (nipple) on the back of the prop valve.

Looks pretty standard when it comes to flares. Have you tried to install the lines yet and tighten them down? Or are you just speculating that it won't work?

I did tighten them down, It just felt like the ones that look too big weren't seating because there was some play like they bottomed out. The one that looks too small seemed to tighten up fine. Anyway, maybe I'm over-thinking this, but I'm being extra cautious since it could be a safety issue. I guess I could just hook everything up and keep an eye on any leaks.
