Hi all,
since several of you were following my engine rebuild I decided to post this here. Most of you know that I took a position in korea and I've been here for six months now and having a grand time.
My wife arrived in July but not before dropping off my Scout at the port in new jersey. It arrived on sept 5 and I brought it home this past Friday sept 19 after passing through customs and geting a temporary reg.
So here are some photos. Got quite a crowd at the trans ship place when the container was opened. My customs agent told me that he could find no record of a Scout ever being registered in korea. Doesn't rule out military as they don't register their vehicles with korean dmv. Bill usn took in Scout to italy for example.
My wife had told me that 2/3 of they way to the port it wouldn't get out of its own way and I feared the worst. The oil looked clean and didn't smell.
I pulled the distributor and spun up the oil pump and got good pressure. Spun it up again while the wife cranked the starter. And then I put the distributor back in. Of course I put it in 180 out and my wife got to learn what backfire meant.
Anyway, while pulling the distributor out again I noticed the electronis ignition module looked funny. My delco distributor had just enoug end play that a screw head from the rotor nicked the module. Once this ridge galled up it hit more often eventuall loosening the module. It's an electric eye with an interruptor screwed tothe centrifugal advance (screw head)
anyway, found a smoking gun and my wife was greatly relieved (I never said a word!!) she had told me that she started it every day and checked the oil and watched the pressure gauge. Good woman.
More to come. Never posted pics of completed engine. Runs like a champ. Never thought I could tell the difference between a 304 and a 345. 304 seems peppier, course never had a new 345.
Take care,
harry

Lastly, on the street in daejeon!!
