Gauge Pod Mod

Here is a low budget method of installing round gauges in a Scout II. The companion post on the electrical tech page will show how by adding one new wire installation is plug_and_play.

Pic 1: the finished gauge pod with new gauges.

Pic 2: gives all information for the gauge face plate layout.

Pic 3: first step, gut the stock pod.

Pic 4: cut out back

pic 5: add new face plate. The first couple I made I utilized the tabs to hold the face plate on. Then I tried four tack welds on the inside for a better look. I also powder coated the final version for the best look.

Pic 6: note you will have to place one of the u bolt legs out side the pod body. This is not a problem for installing in dash opening.
Pic 7: finished. I have ideas for a gauge cover but it’s not a priority at this time.
To keep this short I left out some details so if you have any questions just ask.

My solution was much more "hacky" than that. However I'm greatly satisfied with the results.

I used auto-meter sport-comp guages and the original pods.

72 Scout II:

the one question I get asked all the time is what about a trim cover. Your approach answers that quite well. Nice job!

Thank you sir, the oem faceplates sit right in the stock position and provide that "stocker" look.

Seems like you should be able to lay the faceplates right into your beauties...in my app let's just say that "great stuff" went a long way.

The oil pressure is mechanical, with a voltmeter in place of the amp guage. I do get a little condensation every now and then with the weather and thought about using oil-filled guages...then I wake up.
