Hi, to start with I have a 74 scout11 with a 19gal poly tank and all emmisions/vapor-fuel stuff has been removed long ago and it belched gas every time I filled it. I pulled the tank yesterday to fix my long ongoing prob with the fuel guage. I decided to install another vent in the tank other than the one in the filler neck. This poly tank has 2 fittings on the top right and left side toward the front of the tank. I took one of those fittings and attached 8' of gas line and reinstalled the tank. I ran the line right with the sender wires and the fuel pump line. Once the new vent line cleared the frame I ran a big loop up the pass. Side rear fender and wire tied it to the clearence light wire as it came back down I ran it over by the tank about where the rear body mount is on the pass side. Of course wire tied it very well and hose clamped a piece of brass screen over the end.
Well I filled it up with gas last night and no belch!! No gas on the paint, running down the side of the Scout and I was able to fill it rather fast. Time will tell but I think a long time problem is solved!!
Oh by the way I found my problem with the fuel gauge to, the wire coming out from the sender had been pinched between the tank and body and caused a break that would fail and cause resistance in the wire.
Just thought I would share.
