Fuse box mounting (kwik wire kit)

I have my kwik wire kit and I'm preparing for the re-wire on my truck and I have several questions but I'll start with this one for now.

Where is the best place to mount the fuse box? (I know under the dash on the driver side, but any suggestions beyond that?) right now the dash is out and I am having a custom dash made for it. Is it important/necessary to have the fuse box mounted before I start the rewire?

We normally mount the fuse box on the firewall near the parking brake lever. This makes it easy to change a fuse if the need arises.
