FULL WIDTH VS SCOUT SPRUNG OVER 44S

Hey you guys I have a chance to get some k5 blazer full width danna 44 front an 12 bolt rear for next to nothing almost free. I'm torn between that an my 44 Scout sprung over axles I have in it. I like the full width because I can get off camber better an not be as top heavy but then I cant get threw such narrow trails which I can easily do with my Scout 44s. An parts for the k5 axles are everywhere an easer to get then the Scout axle.plus I can put bigger tires on the full widths an not rub on my inner finder but ill still have to cut the out body for the tires, but with Scout axle if I go bigger tires then ill rub on my inner body finders an still will need to cut my out body an finders for bigger tires. You see!!!! I'm torn in between the two :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :cryin: :cryin:    :yikes: :yikes:

Since each option has its pros and cons, I think I would go spring over and keep it "original".
Besides, if your gonna run big tires you should consider upgrading to Dana 60s.

If you like to drive it on the street, full width axles might attract too much attention. There really isnt a difference between Chevy and IH Dana 44's acept for the ends. So you wouldnt have much of an advantage there as far as parts availability or options go. Accept for maybe a set of brembo stoppers, or maybe they are available.

Would stay away from the 12 bolt, not much better than the 44 you are running, just wider. 14 bolts are cheap and everywhere.

I dont know.my cuzin wants a $100 bucks for both axles an they come with 33 already on them.:icon_biggrin:

but I need new muflers an drive shafts right now so I think I just May pass this offer up

I would not go full width with just a 12 bolt, as Matt said 14 bolt's are easy enough to find and way stronger. If I ever go full it will be 14 bolt rear (or larger like pete with a Dana 70) and followed by a d60 front (time/money permitting).

Don't forget it is not a bolt in swap and there are always mods that need to be made. Mods mean more money!

None of this matters as I cannot go full width as it would not be fair to sean who just finished going spring over :icon_blaugh:

That's before you have to get new ubolts, spring plates, brakelines and driveshafts (if the axles change your driveshaft length), move the spring perches, oh, and don't forget dealing with the steering issues. High steer arm(s), maybe needing a new flat top knuckle on the passenger side if it doesn't have one already, fabbing a new tierod and draglink. And the gears. Are they what you want? Would you need to regear them? Etc.
Can you tell I have been down this rabbit hole? :arf:

With a stock width setup, you have more options on lines as you can go between rocks and what not. Once you go full width, you have to drive over all that chit. Which means you need really big tires.
The only advantage to full width is when side hilling an obstacle, a bit less pucker factor and you can rub your tires on the rocks and not hit the body. Don't forget you can go wider with different back spacing rims too. Matts full width and 2" b.s. Mines 3" your stock Scout rims are 3.75 (the higher the number the narrow you are) I would fix what you know needs to be fixed and then look into some ninja bars.
