Fuel Sender

The oem standard fuel gauge sending unit for all light line vehicles is a 10ohm>73ohm item. That is a nominal range and normally found to be within +/- 10%, it's not real critical.

That said...the current sending unit we market sourced from light line is a somewhat different design though the mounting flange for it is correct and mounts the sender in the correct position in the tank(s) for both Scout 80 and Scout 800. If that unit is tested with an ohmmeter from min to max, you will find it to be a nominal 0>90 ohm unit as used with most GM stuff. But...when installed in the s80/s800 tank, it's range of movement is limited to provide the correct reading/relationship on the oem fuel gauge instrument if the cvr that powers all gauges except the ammeter is operational.

Thank you michael for your quick response.

If I was to purchase the new ones that have the 0-90ohm like you say and if I look at getting a new fuel guage should I still get one that works with the 10-70 or the 0-90ohm?

Thanks again,
bill

All you would do is remove the failed sending unit and install the replacement unit we market under the light line brand. It is a direct replacement. No need to change or modify anything else regarding the fuel level/gauge system.

I only mention the resistance value/range of the light line replacement so that if someone were to bench test it with an ohmmeter through it's full sweep, they would not find the values given in any IH service reference, but the replacement unit does perform correctly due to the way it's constructed when installed and fuel is in the tank(s). It is not identical in it's construction to the oem sender but is a correct replacement.
