fuel pump wear

I have a 65 Scout 80. I have literaly looked at everything on my fuel pump and all I can think of is that the arm or cam is wore. How much does it take and has anyone encountered this problem befor?

The combination fuel/vacuum pumps are available new both from ihon and from any parts house that knows how to look 'em up. My two local parts houses keep 'em on the shelf.

Pull the pump off the block (two bolts and two hose fittings plus the vacuum line) and verify that the arm is good. Then using a flashlight and a small mirror, it's easy to look inside the block at the actuator cam on the camshaft and verify it's quality. I've never seen a fuel pump cam that is failed myself on these engines.

Crank the engine over after connecting in a fuel pressure gauge. Standard system numbers are 5>7psi with an output volume of one pint in 20 seconds of cranking.

It will fill p the sediment bowl but wont pump out. I puled it oput and the arm is slightly worn but how much wear does it take befor it wont pump right.

We don't really care about filling the sediment bowl. We want to know...what is the pressure and volume of the outlet flow of the pump with the engine cranking over. That is the test.

Post a picture of the "wear" spot on the actuator arm so I can see it.

Nothing comes out, the vacum works but not the pump. Ill post pictures tomorow.

If the fuel pump has no output, then replace it!

These items can be easily 40>50 years old! They are a maintenance part and will fail at some point. Then add in the shit we are forced to burn nowadays for fuel which kills older fuel pumps internally along with any other non-metallic part it sees.

I would like to replace it but I dont have the $$. I dont think its the wear now I am going to go over it all again and ill let you know what I find.

It is the arm, its worn to much does anyone know where I could buy a new arm assebly?

Service parts for these fuel pumps are not available. They can be reconditioned by some folks but will cost at least twice as much as simply replacing it with a new one off the shelf!

Hard parts are not replaced during rebuilding. Only the soft parts, seals, springs, etc. Are part of a rebuild kit.

Since I haven't seen any pics of your fuel pump components, I'm certainly not convinced that the actuator arm or any other component is damaged.
