The flywheel I have for my 304 is not original to the engine. When I acquired the engine, the flywheel was missing. This flywheel is a v-8 flywheel, but it has some small hair-line cracks. When I took it to be resurfaced, the old boy (an engine machinist for 30 years) said they were no problem. I am interested in the opinion of the board, because there are so many I-h quirks, and perhaps cracks do matter on sv engines. Pineneedle

Did they re-surface it an still have the cracks ? You really can't get rid of them, Jeff

Usually small cracks are heat checking and not an issue. They rarely penetrate the surface more than a .001" and cause no structural or fatigue related weakness in the wheel.
