Here is a link to this months road rallye. Should be awesome. tillamook air museum
blimpshangar2.jpg

In 1942, the u.s. Navy began construction of 17 wooden hangars to house the k-class blimps being used for anti-submarine coast patrol and convoy escort. Two of these hangars were built at the naval air station tilllamook, commissioned in December 1942 to serve the oregon-washington coastal area.

Construction of the two hangars was rushed to completion. Hangar "b" was the first one built and was completed in August of 1943. Hangar "a" which was destroyed in a 1992 fire, was completed in only 27 days. Amazingly, there were no serious injuries or deaths on the whole project.

Stationed at nas tillamook was squadron zp-33 with a complement of eight k-ships. The k-ships were 252 feet long and filled with 425,000 cu. Ft. Of helium. With a range of 2,000 miles and an ability to stay aloft for three days, they were well suited for coast patrol and convoy escort. Naval air station tillamook was decommissioned in 1948.

Since 1994 the remaining hangar has been home to one of the top five privately owned aircraft collections in the nation.

Sounds like fun.

The only problem is we are heading in the opposite direction that weekend.

I hope you have some decent weather that will allow for lots of good pictures.

If I can't be there in person, seeing pictures allows me to participate vicariously.

We are interested in going and are trying to keep it open. More details please as
far meeting place and time, cost of the museum (group discount?) and eating plans.:)

I can't tell if there is a charge for the museum. Dad is the one that has been in contact with them. Maybe he will chime in.

We will be meeting at the market in carlton at 9:00am from there we will take nestucca river scenic byway to beaver. From beaver we will head past sand lake to cape lookout and on to tillamook. Looks like about 75 mi and 3 hr.
There is a 50s style cafe at the museum for those of you that don't want to pack a picnic lunch.
Hope to see a bunch of you there. Post up if you have any more questions.

Anyone unfamiliar with carlton and how to get there can meet me at the newberg fred meyer.
Departure time 8:30 sharp. That will put us in carlton just a little before 9.
You can even get some ethanol free premium fuel in carlton!

if anyone wants to meet at freddies post up here. If there is no interest, I won't bother.

The d20 is now complete...again.

The valve body will be done tomorrow. Then on Wednesday I'll set up the trailer for pullin' again.

We'll see you Thursday afternoon late and spend the nite in the driveway, do the SSII on Friday, then make the run along with yawl on satidy.

Since you'll be in the driveway, I won't meet ya at freddies.
You planning on riding with me or driving the beater truck on the rally?

Momma and dawgs will be there, so we'll ride in our rig. We need all the cash-sukkin' rides we can round up to make this run!

Darn!! We missed another great February cruise. Looks like you had a perfect day, same as last year.

We had to do the grandparent thing today. Grand-daughter turned 2.

Sorry I didn't post up when plans changed, but thanks to ken for calling and checking. Looks like greg called the cell phone as well; I couldn't get it out of linda's coat fast enough while it was hanging on the rack.

Yes, I called first and when the cell didn't answer, ken called the home number before I could go look it up. It was a great trip. There was a lot of snow in the coast range following the nestucca river to 101. Great sunny weather and a great group to be with.

I had a great time and can't wait to do it again! I headed north after the museum then she started running really bad. I left the group and the safety of all you mechanics and had a breakdown! My fuel pump was sounding like it was struggling so I pulled my fuel filter and couldn't blow through it so slapped a new one on and was back in business!

And quinn...I had a new fuel pump with me!

This was an incredible IHSTO weekend! The museum was a wonderful experience with stuff I've never seen before. The grub joint inside was first rate and so was the store.

I had no idea everyone (except kathy, greg and the kids) had already left for the day, sorry we missed ya!

Once I looked outside, there was nothing there except greg's rig and ours. Kathy was in the trailer asleep.

Thanks to all for working on the tire swap on the trailer! That was another stoopid deal on my end that I just do because it's fun.

We came back down to a state park for the night north of newport, then on home Sunday afternoon. Stopped off at the casino there in florence, kathy scored a few significant hits that paid for the entire trip several times over!

Thanks again to the IHSTO krew for putting together such a great ride and weekend!

Great to finally meet you and your family quinn. Glad you guys had a good time. We don't always get so lucky with our weather but we always have fun.
