Fan Shroud

Hey guys-
anyone have a parts Scout with a fan shroud they dont need? I bought my 79 with out one.

Well- the temp gauge is broken. But running hot is sorta the "nature of the beast" for these bad boys. I just figured it wouldnt hurt if I could find one used locally.

I have no idea jason. I was hoping for another babs work day soon so I could have one of you guys help me with some wiring and get some tips. Cooling hasnt been a problem yet for me. Drove her home from Auburn months ago with no probs.

The fan shroud really doesn't do much for cooling when the car is moving. Where you need it is in traffic on a hot day or extended stop and go driving on a hot day where you hit every traffic light. You will see a lot of the rock crawlers talk about cooling because they go slow all day long and that tends to heat things up after a while.

I have a few old cars that did not even come with shrouds and the only time I notice it is when driving hard on the freeway and then get off and sit in traffic and watch the temp go up and up!

Sorry... I don't have any Scout II shrouds, but I know Jeff (IH Parts America) sells them.

Cool. I spoke with a buddy that recommended a transmission cooler. What do you guys think about that? I also head about possible electric fan mounted with aux switch for off road and traffic times.

Dont have a spare fan shroud but I do have a stock IH trans cooler in the parts Scout. It's a big mother that runs the length under the radiators bottom tank.
 
I have had my 72 Scout for 23 years with a lift, 33" tires, 392, 727 automatic. I do not have a trans cooler (never have) and have had no problems with it at all. I don't typically use it for heavy wheeling / towing, so see no need to add one in. If you are doing heavy wheeling / rock crawling or a lot of towing I would recommend one.

Electric fan is another option. Most folks who put them in remove the stock fan and run electric (taurus) fans that are wired to kick on as temp comes up. I'm sure a quick search here or on binderplanet would yield a wealth of information on this subject.

Im running a Ford fan as my only with no problems it has the shroud built into it works great! If u do go electric dont use the zip nuts that pass trough the rad
