Exhaust Manifold question

This should be a quick question. I have 74, 345 scout11, with an exhaust leak on the pass side. I have a couple of manifolds and gaskets as far as I can tell (without pulling) there is no difference between left or right, right? Also there is no flapper thingy on the pass side either, I am assuming a po removal.
Thanks

Thanks Robert, wish me luck removing manifold bolts. I already know some are rusted so a 9/16 wrench won't fit anymore. I don't anticipate any problems, I hope!

Look real close at the head of each retaining bolt and make sure if any of 'em have "tabbed" retaining washer still present, that ya bend down the tab before bangin' a socket onto the head.

I never reuse those locking tabs...worthless! I run only plain old grade eight bolts with a hardened washer under the head and anti-seize on the threads.

The oem bolts were a bronze-flashed grade eight for anti-corrosion protection, some refer to those as "copper plated".

The flange mounting ears can be kinda fragile in some cases when ya bolt up the new headpipe and donut system, but at least the original stuff used thru-bolts and not studs that twist off!

ron,

you are absolutly correct. The center dump exhaust manifolds are the same for right and left.
The center dump, 2 bolt flange manifolds for sv loadstar have provisions for the power steering pump to bolt on the left side manifold but will still work if you don't use that.

Sorry guys I have been out of town for a couple of days. But yes these manifolds are off of that 345 loadstar motor. Yes I saw that bolt hole for the power steering, but I did realize I won't use it and the manifold still can be used.

Thanks

Oh by the way michael you were right about those tabs, just looked at them at lunch and sure enough they are on there.
I suppose that's why my wrench did not fit:icon_redface:

I had to replace the doughnut on the right side of my Scout last year. I sprayed the bolts down with kroil several times over 3 days. When it was time to remove them I said a lil prayer hoping they didnt snap. They all broke loose with ease and was able to thread them out by hand!

Kroil is your friend!
Mouse milk will work great too!

Thanks guys, all went well. Got it fixed on sat morn with no problems.

Worst issue was removing the old gasket from the head, tight spot and bonded by rust.
