Engine vibration

74 100 345 @1400rpm + - 100 rpm the eng. Vibrates like a almond shaker! It started after I pulled and reinstalled the 345 I noe I forgot to index the pressure plate to flywheel but I belive the clutch should be neutral right and the flywheel has a locating pin ? I did a hermonic balancer swap no luck so im thinking its on the other end btw not drivetrain related does it in neutral clutch in or out and ingear while driving ill try to get vid

If this engine has a true harmonic balancer and not a simple crankshaft flange, is it the same balancer that came on the engine originally?

All of the sv engines were individually balanced at the point of assembly. They each should always keep their original peripherals, otherwise the balance factor will be negated to a degree.

If a flywheel is replaced with another part from a different engine, it should be "neutral balanced" by the machine shop before being installed.

Changing out the actual clutch cover with a reman or new unit should not affect the entire balance situation, but if an engine is going to be re-balanced, then anything connected to the crankshaft is included in the entire package.

Yes its non hub style and the orig. Flywheel is on and the original balancer is on with no change could it be internal ? The eng runs good no rod knock ect I May have to bring it by to show doc

The clutch was done about a year ago and the fly was machined and was fine no vibration im also getting a mean exhaust backfire on decel but I think its unrelated as for the mouts the eng are decent and I put the ol mushy tranny mouts back in to keep my teeth from coming out

Just a wag, wild assed guess, but check your plug wires and make sure all is hooked correctly according to the firing order; and a quick overview of the ignition system wouldn't hurt either. I know it's a guess, but folks have had long threads on problems that were as simple as an idle stop screw from the start. Maybe during your engine r&r, something got moved.

Rk's question about the flywheel re-surface probably relates to the dowel pin. I had my 74's resurfaced, and the knuckleheads at the shop popped it back in the wrong place. But I suppose I was the ultimate knucklehead as I installed the tranny and didn't catch it until I started it.
Is your dowel pin located correctly? It will fit in any of the bolt holes like it was meant to be there.
Edit: I see its been a year on that and no probs. Disregard.

When the clutch was done (flywheel resurfaced), was the flywheel / pressure plate (new?) balanced as an assembly?

If so, one of the bolt holes should be stamped (an "x"?) to indicate the correct way to put together the flywheel / pressure plate...

Update with the tranny out and clutch and p-plate still installed no vibration the pilot bearing is sturdy and smooth
