Should run (normal operation) at the "rating" of the thermostat - 160* (probably "too cold") / 180* / 195*.
You should buy an infrared temp "gun" at a parts store (or sears)... -- measure at the thermostat housing / neck leading to the radiator
IH gauges May read differently - age / wiring / po "issues"...
The 392 in my t/a's (180 degree robertshaw thermostat) temp gauge needle is at the left edge of the horizontal line in the temp gauge at normal operating temp ( approx 180*), but another gauge May read differently.
