Electronic pickup questions

I have a 1967 1800 loadstar with a 345. The dist is a Holley/IH version with a gov/tach drive(#359220). I am replacing the Holley 2bbl gov/carb(list 4310-2) with a non-gov Holley 2 bbl 2300(#7448). The current dist has an electronic pickup that is stamped with p25-2 on the top. Do I have to make any modifications to the dist to match up with the new carb. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the ihon forum!

We need to positively I.d. The distributor and type of electronic trigger you have currently. Go to this thread which is stickeed at the top of this sub-forum:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/642-ihc-vehicle-distributor-identification.html

Look at post #3. Those are Holley distributors for medium duty/loadstar apps, one with governor and tach drive, one with only tach drive. Those units have pertronix electronic conversions installed that replace the original breaker points/condenser. Does your trigger marked "p25-2" look like either of those? If so, then you have the pertronix conversion.

Neither of the p-trons installed in those two distributors have any I.d. On 'em other than a carb exemption number on the label. It appears that in the current pertronix catalog (and in a print copy I have from 2007), those trigger conversions are nla, there is no listing for 'em.

If the distributor/ignition system is currently operational, then ya don't need to do anything with it when changing carburetors. The vacuum advance unit should connect to the "ported" vacuum port on the Holley list 7448 carb. That is the port on the passenger side of the metering block.
