E-brake cable removal question

I hope I haven't made my first blunder??? Yesterday, I finished removing everyting from my 78 sii, except the engine, trans & t/c. Literally, I'm down to the tub sitting on the frame. I removed the e-brake cables from each backing plate by breaking off the tabs that had been "bent up" to hold the cable in the opening. Was this a no-no, or is a replacement "clamp" or other fix available????

If you feed the loose end of the cable through a 1/2" box wench, it will encapsulate and compress all of the fingers so they pop into the hole. Makes removal a snap for next time!

Thanks, guys!!! I looked long & hard trying to figure a way to remove it without "sacrificing" it!!!!:out: it was pretty rusty so not a real loss!!! I will be ordering a new one from you Jeff!!! Truly, this is the only part/piece I had trouble with on the entire tear down. I picked up some tall jack stands tonight and a lifting jig. Engine comes out tomorrow night!!
