dual tanks in a Terra?

I believe I've read that it's possible to install dual tanks in a lwb sii. Iirc, you can put a 33-gal tank in like normal and spin a 19-gal tank around and place it just forward. I think I remember that it would take a mild body lift to accommodate.

Assuming it's possible, would you just install a tank selector and have a sending unit in each? Or would you hard line the two tanks and have just the sending unit in the main (33-gal) tank? Seems like you should have a switch and separate sending units.

Welcome to the forum thedon!

The "correct" way to do an auxiliary service tank install in any vehicle would be to use a selector valve (either manual-control or electric valve). Some electric valves incorporate a switching element for the fuel senders also, some don't. Otherwise, a simple high quality (no introduced resistance) toggle switch will work just fine.

Using an "equalizer" between tanks is a no-no since the transfer between tanks can't be effectively controlled. Such a system is sometimes found on medium/hd truck apps with identical saddle tanks mounted at exactly the same height.

I just completed an install of a modded 33 gallon tank (aftermarket, not IH option tank) onna Scout II (100 inch wheelbase). But frankly I don't see how you could do what you are proposing, the external dimensions of the oem sii 19 gallon tank are approximately 26"x25"x11".

A friend does run an aftermarket "saddle" tank onna sii (popular tank back in the '70's) which hangs under the frame on the passenger side with the filler neck through the quarter panel down low. Iirc it's 20 gallons and is used in conjunction with an oem 33 gallon tank. Hell of alotta added weight on the passenger side when full!

Pic is attached of a 100" wheelbase Scout II tank hole. The wheelbase onna traveler/terra is 118".

Here's a shot of the modded 33 gallon tank in it's new home. It's actually short now about two gallons since the bottom was removed , the sidewalls shortened, and a diamondplate bottom in heavier gauge material installed. The mounting straps are much beefier than any oem lashup.
