Does anyone have a flex plate I can borrow for a few weeks?

Hello,

I am rebuilding a motor to swap into my Scout II. I plan to have the rebuilt motor balanced at carl stirtz's in oakland. He suggests having the flex plate present for the procedure which I'm not familiar with....the new motor does not have one and I don't want to pull my old motor until the new one is ready so the truck does not go down for a long time.

Can I borrow your extra flex plate (for a 345 with 727 auto)?

What kind of beer do you like for this loan?

I'm in alameda....

Hey jack, he is going to use the flex plate to balance the whole assembly, so you would want to keep and use that flex plate in your rig. The machine shop did that with my engine, the crank, balancer and flex plate were balanced as a unit. Not all engines are like this, you can balance parts individually. I will look and see if I have one. Justin

when you're ready for it, let me know. Slowing down a little bit at work, and not working as much o.t., so I'll have a bit more time available in the evenings during the week. Unless the change my schedule to swing shift - yuck.

Once it gets balanced with the rest of the rotating assembly, I'm of the mind set that it all stays together as a package while being installed for the rebuild. Old school thinking, along with dealing with a balancer guy who has been doing it for over 30 or 40 years.

thank you for the responses. I'm making one last try to see if the po of the motor finds its flex plate at his house. If not, I will most likely purchase scooter's.

good to finally meet ya in person. Hope you were not late in picking up your kids. If you have any problems with that flex plate let me know. When it gets matched up to the crank, you May need to rotate it in order to get the holes to line up properly. I once had a situation, with one of my own motor rebuilds a few years ago on the 258 straight six in my 74 Scout, with the balancer guy claiming that the flex plate didn'tfit or it was the wrong one. Turns out that he didn't rotate the plate to line up the off-set holes. Different spacing between them, so that the flex plate goes back in exactly the same marks each and every time it gets taken apart. The sv 8 motors might be the same way as the 258 six banger and Ford motors.

I really appreciate the help today. I started cleaning up the flex plate tonight and will fit her to the crank tomorrow. It was fun to see your shop and your fleet. I'm impressed by your work and your plans.
